“an amalgamation of indie elegance and alt-rock rawness” - The Line of Best Fit
“‘Impressive, very impressive. She’s Nadia Sheikh. Some grunge, some dead hooky and catchy indie going on in there too.” - Chris Hawkins (BBC 6 Music)
British/Spanish genre-chameleon Nadia Sheikh shares details of her forthcoming new EP, ‘Undefined’ - due to be self-released on Tuesday 16th November. With the news comes the mesmerising new single, ‘Love is Undefined’; the second to be taken from the EP.
Hot on the heels of ‘IDWK’, which was released to praise from the likes of The Line of Best Fit and Chris Hawkins on BBC 6Music; ‘Love Is Undefined’ was produced & mastered by Brett Shaw (FOALS, Florence and the Machine).
“Sometimes love just turns into dust.” says Sheikh. “You realise things aren’t working out and you can’t keep on going on but you’re so afraid of hurting the other person that you end up hurting yourself. That’s what I tried to convey in Love Is Undefined. Here I’m at my most honest. It was a very cathartic song to write, a bit scary too as it’s so personal, but it helped me heal and I hope it can help anyone going through the same kind of situation.”
Tipped by key tastemaker names including BBC 6Music, BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 3, Radio X, Fresh On The Net & many more; Sheikh’s ability to combine the powerful, anthemic nature of indie-rock with heartfelt, singer-songwriter style lyricism and the hooks of timeless pop have previously seen her join Stereophonics on an extensive UK/EU tour – performing sold out arena shows in Manchester, Cardiff and across the EU.
Having spent the past twelve months working on perfecting both her songwriting and the sound she’s cultivated with her band and core collaborators Rowan Davies (bass) and George Gardiner (drums), Sheikh now steps into a new era with ‘Undefined’.
Written between her parents’ house in Spain, where she spent her time in lockdown and her bedroom in London, the EP’s four tracks find Sheikh at her most vulnerable. Candidly and earnestly exploring the relationships in her life and how they can break down, ‘Undefined’ sees Nadia elegantly tap into subjects all can relate to; confronting her troubles with a dynamic and comforting air of resilience.
‘Undefined’ is set for release on Tuesday 16th November. Nadia will take to the road in October for a run of UK headline shows, including dates in London, Cardiff, Liverpool, Manchester and Leeds.
