NOT NOW NORMAN have been supplying rock anthems since they burst onto the scene in 2019. They may be known for their sassy vocals, blunt delivery and in-your-face lyrics, but their upcoming single ‘Save Me’ feels like a whole new level for the group.
When I first blasted this track, I was taken aback by the sheer boldness of the mix. Each instrument is cranked up the max. The distorted guitar is an essential element here, forming the main scaffolding of the soundscape. It’s perfectly coloured with texture, each note is still noticeable and it’s not blurry in the slightest unlike some rock tracks I come across.
The drum line propels this track forward with some real powerfully dynamic breaks. Taylor Mitchell’s vocals are clear as crystal, sailing over the top of the thick soundscape below. It’s as if her voice was created for tracks like this. Her powerful, clean tone cuts through the chaos of the guitar solos and cymbal breaks and is unwavering in its power throughout the whole track.
There is a fiery force fuelling each refrain of ‘Save Me’ — this is one deserving of being blasted.
