June 16th 2022, 50 Years Later. To the day. The second installment in the exciting series from Pale Wizard Records pays tribute to the monumental classic ‘The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars’ by David Bowie.
David Bowie’s 5th album, more commonly referred to as simply ‘Ziggy Stardust’, was released on June 16th 1972. This album catapulted Bowie from a fringe cult hero to a worldwide mega star. A cohesive, conceptual and sweeping masterwork, the record is seen as one of the most important landmark releases of the seventies. With its huge musical scope, Ziggy influenced entire generations of rockers, goths, popstars, new romantics and everything else in between.
With the 50 Years Later series, Pale Wizard Records brings you an exciting line up featuring some of the most renowned bands in the underground scene today paying homage to Ziggy Stardust in their own contemporary styles.
Not just any tribute record, 50 Years Later artists are handpicked by the staff at Pale Wizard Records to get the utmost out of each classic track. The 11 original songs are brought to life here by 11 of the absolute best the modern hard rock, stoner and psych underground scene has to offer.
The lead single for this release is the UK’s very own Raging Speedhorn tackling ‘Suffragette City’ in a raucous and yet faithful fashion; a fantastic contemporary, hard rocking version of an all time classic.
Other highlights on the album include Mother Vulture’s take on ‘Starman’, Sergeant Thunderhoof’s version of the classic ‘The Jean Genie’ and Sail tackling album opener ‘Five Years’.
Ziggy Stardust: 50 Years Later is a loving homage to the original classic, following last year's debut in the series which was a very well-received tribute to the great ‘Killer’ LP by Alice Cooper, championed by the likes of Classic Rock, Metal Hammer and BBC Radio 2’s Johnnie Walker.
