Marking three years to the day since the COVID lockdown was implemented in the UK, “Let Them Pass” sees deux furieuses tread into more personal territory without compromising on their usual insurgent political form.
Reverberating with a profound sense of outrage and loss, the new track tackles the government’s incompetence with a spear-heading assault of their trademark alt-rock. As the band explain:
“”Let Them Pass” is a song of mourning and personal loss as a consequence of the Government’s irresponsible care home failures during the early stages of the pandemic. I wrote it after a walk in the woods on Christmas Day 2020 when sunlight shone through the tall fir trees and I felt the death all around me pass onto life.”
Accompanied by a stirring and sombre official video that reflects on the lasting consequences the pandemic continues to have today, deux furieuses add:
“The song is about being unable to say goodbye in person. It’s for the young care home worker who broke the rules to accept a video of homemade music via her WhatsApp to play on a final phone call and told me: ‘she’s smiling’. It’s in tribute to all those who put on what little PPE they had to care for others. It’s a song of mourning for us all as this passes into history.”
“Let Them Pass” is taken from deux furieuses’ scorching third album ‘Songs From Planet Earth’. A record filled with a sense of hope and fire that burns all the brighter in these darkest of times, the LP saw Ros Cairney and Vas Antoniadou rise up with some of their most accomplished work to date.
Documenting a personal journey through the pandemic, political turmoil and climate emergency with a barrage of ragged alt-rock inflected sounds, the album featured insurrectionary previous singles including “Our Day Will Come”, “All We Need Is Sanctuary”, “Know The Score” and the Boris Johnson-toppling “Bring Down The Government”.
Having completed a UK tour supporting Xtra Mile compadres Skinny Lister at the end of last year, as well as their own headline album release show at London’s The Lexington that saw cameos from Brix Smith and My Bloody Valentine’s Deb Goodge, deux furieuses will also be playing an assortment of live shows this Spring/Summer.
