VITAL is a Wolverhampton based creative artist who recently got the call to attend and perform at Radio 1's Big Weekend in Exeter, we caught up with him and chatted about how BBC Introducing has helped him to get his music on the map....
For the lucky people who are going to the Radio 1 Big Weekend, please would you introduce yourself and your music?
My name is VITAL, conscious creative artist from Wolverhampton West Midlands, with a energetic and meaningful presence.
You’re playing the BBC Introducing stage at Radio 1’s Big Weekend on Sunday 29th May, how did you feel when you heard?
To be honest, when I heard, I was overwhelmed, excited and mentally ready to take on this challenge and submerse myself in the moment. 25,000 people on average, it's going to feel like a flippin' movie, I cant wait. The performance is going to epic and SO special.
How did it all come about?
BBC West Midlands have my back, they've supported me and have been for a while, the guys in London heard the right song from me and said yes! #Disrespectful is the track, i believe that gave me the spot on the BIG WEEKEND STAGE.
You’re from Wolverhampton, how would you describe the music scene there right now?
There is so much talent but not enough motion, not enough people doing things, to the point that when someone or something new pops up, most people believe it won’t last. I love my city and most of the people in it but I really wish we worked together more often.
Tell me more about ‘Oh My Goooush’….
Oh My Goooush is who I am, my identity, my slogan, my logo, my brand, my catch-phrase, my trademark. everything that represents me sonically, legally and literally. Be around me for a few days or listen to my songs and you'll understand what I mean, 100 percent.
How has BBC Introducing helped you as an artist?
BBC Introducing has given me a great platform to perform on and to promote and showcase my music, I've got too much love for BBC West Midlands, RADIO 1 AND RADIO 1 XTRA.
Who are you MOST excited about seeing at the R1BW this year?
I believe Stormzy or Skepta are on the same day as me, so whichever one is, they will definitely tear up the stage.
What advice would you give to an artist or band who is thinking of getting in touch with BBC Introducing?
Research, ask and keep your eyes and ears open for whats happening to attempt to talk to the right person at the right place.
And finally, please would you give us the name of another BBC Introducing act that everyone should be checking out?
Possibly my good friend and fellow artist Phundo Art - and Producer wise, my longtime friend Heckz
We'd like to thank Vital for taking the time to chat to us, we wish him all the very best for the future and look forward to him tearing up the BBC Introducing stage in Exeter at Radio 1's BIG WEEKEND.
