Before Christmas, Princess Nokia revealed her new single Balenciaga and its accompanying video. The track was described as ‘Thumping’ by NME and ‘Furiosly anti-hypebeast’ by i-D and is the follow up to Sugar Honey Iced Tea, released in September. Both tracks are the first new music to be released from her upcoming album, which is expected early next year.
Princess Nokia recently made her acting debut, starring in Angelfish, directed by Peter Lee. The film was released on streaming services yesterday, November 19. Following a series of releases in 2017, she infiltrated the cultural conversation with her independent breakthrough album, 1992 Deluxe. NME ranked the album it among “Albums of the Year,” Noisey graded it “A,” and The Guardian rated it 4-out-of-5 stars. Regularly selling out headline tours and consistently churning out tens of millions of streams, Princess Nokia also hosts an Apple Music Beats 1 Radio show The Voice in My Head with Princess Nokia.
Princess Nokia tours Europe in March 2020. Balenciaga is out now via Platoon.
About Platoon:
Set up by Co-Founder and C.E.O. Denzyl Feigelson in 2016, Platoon landed its first success with BRIT Award winner Jorja Smith’s Blue Lights before fueling the explosion of Billie Eilish in 2017—migrating her from Soundcloud to stardom. By Apple’s 2018 acquisition of Platoon, the team consisted of 12 employees across London and Cape Town’s “Creative Lab,” while recent signings include Princess Nokia, Poo Bear, Aaron Smith, Victoria Monét, Marian Hill, and Cosima. Both offices boast 24-hour recording studios and double as inspiring ecosystems for artists to openly collaborate and create, in addition to classes for recording, filming and editing.
