Founded in 2006 but re-launched by Trekstock in 2017, The Yellow Bird Project brings together some of the biggest and best artists in the world to raise money for its work supporting young adults in their 20s and 30s as they live with, through and beyond cancer.
The newest collection includes four exclusive shirts with original designs, ranging from hand-drawn illustrations by the artists to never before seen artwork. The collection includes unique designs by Brit award-winning rock duo Royal Blood and Grammy-award nominated Wolf Alice, who have just released new single ‘Yuk Foo’ and announced a new album coming this year. Wolf Alice’s design features a hand-drawn illustration by the band’s front woman Ellie Rowsell.
Speaking of their Yellow Bird design, Wolf Alice’s Ellie Rowsell said: "I tried to draw a werewolf but he came out looking all sad and vulnerable. I quite like the idea of things that are supposed to be menacing and scary showing their human, sensitive side - much like the Beast in 'Beauty and the Beast', so here is the loneliest werewolf on earth.”
Royal Blood said: "Glad to be a part of this wonderful initiative, we love the T-shirt design and hope you all do too!"
American cult garage-rockers Thee Oh Sees delivered a unique and vibrant design for the collection, whilst Manchester’s indie alt-pop outfit Everything Everything, delivered a minimalistic graphic featuring the band in their iconic get-ups.
Everything Everything said: “We’re very happy and proud to have been involved in the Yellow Bird Project for Trekstock - a fantastic charity doing incredibly important work all over the UK.”
Oh Sees’ John Dwyer said: "What can I say about the Yellow Bird Project except that these days anything with heart is welcomed. People need help and every bit counts. So thanks to Yellow Bird Project, cheers."
Previous bands that have designed shirts, also available now, include Foals, The Maccabees, Alt-J, The Horrors, Hot Chip, Metronomy, Chvrches, The National, Bloc Party and many more.
Sophie Epstone, Founder & CEO, Trekstock, said: “We are incredibly grateful that our Yellow Bird Project has garnered support from some of the very best artists in the world. Every individual design, makes an invaluable difference to not only helping fund our vital services, but generating much needed awareness for Trekstock and the young adults with cancer that we support.”
