Steven Wold aka Seasick Steve is back with his latest album, and what a stomper this is. Of course we have solid regular Dan Magnusson here on drums and some guest appearances such as Luther Dickinson (slide guitar), Georgina Leach (fiddle) and Ben Miller (Jew’s harp) who all give us some of their instrumental input respectively.
Of course with Steve we know what we are getting and he doesn’t disappoint here with his collection of foot stomping Blues and slower paced ballads. And it will come as no surprise that this was written, produced and recorded at Steve’s house. Why make things complicated?
Personally I think the man is brilliant and I can’t find a bad track on this album which is sure to please all his fans, and perhaps gain him some new ones. Although the ballads are good it has to be admitted that it is with his more frenetic songs that Steve excels, making us all sit up and pay attention. There are no surprises here as such but there are some nice subtleties which hopefully others will pick up on.
In all Steve has given us another great album that it has to be admitted is better than the last couple that we have had, and is something that many will be listening to, and also this is ideal to play through your headphones when commuting, giving you a lift for the day. The man himself will be over here in April starting his tour, so if you are interested check the web for the venues and dates. As we all know his albums are well worth listening to, but hearing the man play live is a wholly different and fantastic experience.
