I’ll admit that I don’t usually get very excited when an email lands in my inbox from a South Coast band, not sure why, I guess that I’ve never really been overenamoured with them in the past and they often seem to be very over confident about themselves, walk and talk with a real swagger but when it comes to delivering the sonic goods, they often fall short of the mark, until now….
Small Talk are a 4 piece indie rock band from Bournemouth who formed in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic and set a very high bar with their debut release ‘Headstart’ which piqued the interest of local, independent and national radio stations all over the world.
Fast forward to May 13th 2022 and they are back with their sophomore offering ‘Paris’, a track riddled with detailed guitar riffs, it truly is a bittersweet anthem that will have fans of their genre bellowing out the chorus at summer festivals and the UK’s finest arenas in the very near future.
Ben Lewis (vocals/bass) explains the meaning behind the track, “‘Paris’ is all about the desperation of wanting a second chance. I’m trying to say that I know it ended badly the first time round but maybe we could try again as we’ve both changed. It’s reliving those memories through rose tinted glasses which makes it difficult to return to the place where the relationship blossomed”.
Upbeat in nature, well crafted with intricate guitar melodies, wonderfully relatable lyrics and a driving beat that is guaranteed to have the masses singing along in unison when they perform this as part of their live set. ‘Paris’ is a bonafide banger, the ‘piece de la resistance’ of their show, guaranteed to summon more than a few oooh’s and ahhh’s as its sonic pleasures unfold.
