Emerging from an isolated winter spent in Greenland, The Horn The Hunt formed out of a burning desire to create challenging pop music for people to lose themselves in. Currently based in Leeds, UK, the duo of Clare Carter and Joseph Osborne released their new single ‘Starless’ digitally on 31st March 2014, which is accompanied by their stunning Neil Young cover ‘Heart of Gold’ as the B-side.
When asked why they decided to cover such a classic track, Clare stated: "First of all it's one of our favourite songs ever! But for many artists I think Neil Young is like the godfather of grunge, the angst-filled outsider who manages to write very embracing and accomplished pop songs. He's an artist for nomads, but the kind of nomads who can't quite stop caring about their land to leave it completely. This song embodies that sense of wanting to find good and make good when deep down you're a bit of a weary loner. We identify strongly with that. Also we've lived in California, so it's true I've been to Hollywood and Redwood!"
The A-side ‘Starless’ is taken from the upcoming album ‘Terrafidella’, due for release later in 2014, and showcases a wholly immersive and atmospheric musical landscape that the duo has created. With its 80s pop and 90s grunge influences, ‘Starless’ opens in a mysterious and chilling way, before we are led in to a more developed, psychedelic and layered sound. The official video for the single was shot near where Clare grew up in Langsett Reservoir, South Yorkshire and reflects the psychedelic aspects of the song with colourful kaleidoscope effects and explosions:
