A fabulous evening with Genesis, mainly from the time of three...but the smattering of ‘Selling England By The Pound’, the ‘Carpet Crawlers’ finale, and of course ‘Afterglow’ (which never fails to jerk a tear) kept me going.
There were few smiles from the musicians (but thinking back, they have never been a particularly jocular bunch)...and no Chester, but Collins Jnr did a good job of wearing his dad's drumsticks. The old timers still have their gift.
Phil....a shadow of his former self, still plays the audience, their participation seemingly bringing him to his feet....was that a trick of the tale, or just clever camera angles?
Genesis always put on a slick show...great production, high quality musicianship and fabulous (old skool) lighting.
The final bow of the three that remain raised the loudest cheer, in a night full of nostalgia, inscrutable lyrics and familiar tunes....all friendly ghosts from a former life!
I had a great time, but thank goodness for Steve Hackett's ‘Seconds Out’ show a couple of weeks ago!
