Yes folks, we were involved in last years event and looking at the lineup for this years event that is to take place at Newton Abbot Racecourse on Saturday 4th June, I can honestly say that we are looking forward to it more than ever.
If you've never been to Lemonfest before, think of it as a bunch of people in one massive space, enjoying a mixed bag of music across multiple stages, if food is your thing, there are tons of brilliant stalls selling anything from burritos, burgers and an excellent variety of vegetarian and gluten free products, there really is something for everyone!
So, onto the lineup for this years event, I have listed the band/act below and added a little bit of information so you can see what they're all about, for more information, just click on the name of the band/act to be taken to their website/facebook page.
Buckle up tight kids, it's gonna be one hell of a ride....
ALABAMA 3 - They make Sweet Mutherfu*king Country Acid House music. All night long. They're not from Alabama, and there's not three of them. They're from Brixton, London. They're the fellas that did that Soprano's theme tune. That tune bought someone a swimming pool, but it sure wasn't any of them.....
BEARDYMAN - Darren Foreman (born 14 May 1982 in Stanmore, North London), better known as Beardyman, is a British multivocalist, musician and comedian from London renowned for his beatboxing skills and use of live looping. We've seen this guy before and all I can say is, BUY A TICKET, he is amazing!
THE HOT 8 BRASS BAND - For over 20 years one of the most popular and visible funk-style brass bands in community parades and funerals has been the Hot 8 Brass Band. In 1996 sousaphone player Bennie Pete was instrumental in merging two former Fortier High School student groups, the High Steppers and the Looney Tunes Brass Bands, to form the Hot 8. The players grew up together and maintain strong, family-like bonds and regular membership. Most of them were born between 1975 and ’87 in a generation that grew up hearing mainly modern-style brass bands in community functions. The band can be larger than many younger groups often featuring ten members, including three trumpets, three trombones, tuba, bass drum, and snare drum. As is common among some more modern groups, the Hot 8 uses only one reed player and like most of the younger bands, the Hot 8’s funk style is a blend of influences from the Dirty Dozen and Rebirth, with more elements of contemporary r&b, rap, and its local variation, “bounce.” The uniqueness of their sound is mainly due to a steady stream of creative original songs and ideas composed or introduced by various band members. Since the Dirty Dozen, the sousaphone has had a more prominent role in brass bands as a feature and solo instrument; it frequently sets up and maintains short rhythmic (often melodic) grooves that dominate and propel most songs in the band.
THE COMPUTERS - The Computers are a British rock band from Exeter, England. Their sound initially fused hardcore punk and garage rock and progressed to a less heavy sound incorporating blues and soul. As of 2014, The Computers have released one mini-album (You Can't Hide From the Computers, 2008) and two full-lengths, This Is the Computers (2011) and Love Triangles Hate Squares (2013), not much more to say other that they KICK ASS live and you should be excited about seeing them!
MAD DOG MCREA - Mad Dog Mcrea are a British folk band from Plymouth, Devon. Their music blends a mixture of folk rock, pop, gypsy jazz and bluegrass, these guys are proper festival heavyweights and you are GUARANTEED a great time when they play live.
KIKO BUN - Kiko is a London based Reggae singer as well as a writer and producer, for more information, check out some of his tracks on Soundcloud
THE CHURCH - are an Australian psychedelic rock band formed in Sydney in 1980. Initially associated with new wave, neo-psychedelia and indie rock, their music later came to feature slower tempos and surreal soundscapes reminiscent of dream pop and post-rock. Glenn A. Baker has written that "From the release of the 'She Never Said' single in November 1980, this unique Sydney-originated entity has purveyed a distinctive, ethereal, psychedelic-tinged sound which has alternatively found favour and disfavor in Australia". The Los Angeles Times has described the band's music as "dense, shimmering, exquisite guitar pop".
WILDWOOD KIN - Wildwood Kin are an acclaimed indie/americana trio from Exeter in Devon comprising of two sisters, Beth and Emillie Key and their cousin Meghann Loney. The music is a mix of their own beautiful and thought provoking original songs with a few stunning arrangements of some better known covers. Their voices meld perfectly in effortless and sublime close harmony and they accompany themselves on a range of acoustic instruments.
