Stratford Circus and Peter Conway Management, a new partnership formed to promote international artists in the capital, are proud to announce that soul collective The Motown Sound will be performing live exclusively at the East London venue on 7th February.
Under the musical directorship of award-winning guitarist and composer, Jamaican-born Ciyo Brown, this 9-piece band of musicians also includes vocalists Verna Francis and Stars In Their Eyes finalist Gwyn Jay Allen, who have appeared in top West End musicals Fame and The Blues Brothers respectively. Together, they are set on reviving the definitive sounds of the 60s with the skill, drive and passion it deserves.
One of the most exciting venues in East London, Stratford Circus is run by the Stratford Arts Trust charity and has made it their mission to nurture young talent across London through collaborations with some of the best artists from across the globe. Situated in the heart of Stratford's vibrant cultural neighbourhood and a stone's throw away from the Queen Elizabeth Park, the hub of the London 2012 Olympic Games, the venue boasts a visionary artistic programme of dance, theatre, music and comedy.
Artistic ambassador for the venue, Paloma Faith, has praised Stratford Circus as "an incubator for young imaginations”, claiming that “if imagination is celebrated and nurtured it will provide the next generation of performance makers and audiences", and with appearances from the likes of The Motown Sound, promoting sounds from across the cultural spectrum, it’s not hard to see why.
In the 1960s the distinctive music of Motown defined an era, reflecting the optimism of a generation on the cusp of positive progression and embraced by audiences worldwide, who were captivated by the irresistible rhythms and timeless songwriting.
Over 50 years later, the genre sounds as fresh and vibrant today as it did when it was the voice of young America, so join The Motown Sound as they sing their way through the American song book in an unmissable night of nostalgic soul revival.
