Mystical quintet, The Sundowners, are soon to bestow their bewitching blend of psychedelic folk upon the wider public as they hatch plans for their first ever headline UK Tour.
Kicking off proceedings at Leeds' Oporto on the 10th of February, the band will take in nine UK venues across ten days before returning to their native Northwest with a final show at Liverpool's Kazimier on the 20th (full dates below).
The dates will see the band air tracks from their first album proper. Although this may be their first headline tour, any doubts as to whether the band will be able to replicate the psychedelic textures of their debut in a live setting can be quickly dismissed. Sundowners was recorded almost entirely live. Holing up in Parr Street studios, Liverpool, the record was wrapped up by the band in just 2 weeks in late 2014 before being given the magic touch by producers James & Ian Skelly (The Coral) and Richard Turvey.
Comprising 11-tracks of radiant psyche-folk, Sundowners combines adept song craft with hazy harmonies and glowing acid washed textures underpinned by wispy guitar janglings.
Taking reference points the diverse and eclectic range of music The Sundowners listened to during the recording sessions - Goat, Tame Impala, Can, Neu!, Portishead, Air, Gillian Welch, Velvet Underground, Fairport Convention - the album reflects lead vocalists/guitarists Niamh Rowe and Fiona Skelly's mutual love of psychedelia and West Coast harmonies.
"The Sundowners are undoubtedly an exciting prospect, with a very defined sense of who they are" NME
"Jefferson Airplane re-tooled for the 21st Century ". - Clash
Album of the Week - XFM
The last 12-months have seen The Sundowners release a brace of limited edition singles, tour constantly alongside the likes of Cats Eyes & Kasabian and appear at both the All Tomorrow’s Parties and Glastonbury Festivals, where they played in the packed BBC Introducing tent.
Now a formidable live act, the Wirral group fronted by Niamh and Fiona benefit from an almost telepathic on-stage understanding and chemistry born out of both Fiona & Niamh’s long-term friendship and the addition of Fiona’s brother, Alfie, on guitar.
The Sundowners are: Niamh Rowe (vocals & guitar) Fiona Skelly (vocals & guitar) Alfie Skelly (lead guitar) Tim Cunningham (bass & backing vocals) Jim Sharrock (drums)
