Four decades after they first plugged in and rattled the British indie landscape, The Wonder Stuff are gearing up for a celebration worthy of their legacy. October 2026 will see the band hit the road for an extensive 16‑date UK tour — a full‑throttle victory lap that stretches from Newcastle to Brixton Academy, with a setlist built to remind fans exactly why this band became such a defining force in alt‑rock.
It’s a milestone that even frontman Miles Hunt seems slightly stunned by. Reflecting on the band’s first rehearsal back in March 1986, he admits he and guitarist Malc Treece could never have imagined still sharing a stage forty years later. “Whatever those scruffy young fellas would have thought,” he says, “both of us are incredibly grateful to all of the audiences that have stuck with us these past four decades. And it shall be our absolute honour to get up on stage this year and play as many of the old faves as we can. We are blessed.”
The tour reunites the long‑standing core of Hunt, Treece, Erica Nockalls, Mark Gemini Thwaite, Tim Sewell and Pete Howard — a line‑up that has weathered eras, trends, and the occasional controlled explosion. Expect a career‑spanning set that digs deep into the band’s catalogue: the early snarling energy of Unbearable and A Wish Away, the widescreen indie‑pop of Caught In My Shadow and Size of a Cow, and the bittersweet punch of Don’t Let Me Down, Gently.
Formed in the Birmingham/Black Country scene of the mid‑80s, The Wonder Stuff quickly became one of the most distinctive voices in British guitar music. Four Top 20 albums between 1988 and 1994, thirteen Top 40 singles, collaborations with Kirsty MacColl and Vic & Bob, six appearances on Top of the Pops, and a run of sold‑out Brixton Academy shows — the band’s ascent was as chaotic as it was unstoppable.
Even after their 1994 split, the appetite never really faded. Their 2000 reunion sold out five nights at London’s Forum, and they’ve continued to release new music and tour ever since, most recently with 2016’s Better Being Lucky.
As if a 40th‑anniversary tour wasn’t enough of a party, The Wonder Stuff are bringing Inspiral Carpets along for the ride. One of the defining bands of the Madchester era, The Inspirals will be rolling out their garage‑pop classics — This Is How It Feels, Move, Find Out Why — alongside a few surprises. “See you down front,” they tease. It’s hard not to believe them.
The tour kicks off in Newcastle on 1 October and winds its way through Manchester, Sheffield, Brighton, Bournemouth, Margate, Glasgow, Cardiff, Leeds, Leicester, Scarborough, Norwich, Lincoln, Wolverhampton and Liverpool, before a huge finale at London’s Brixton Academy on 8 December.
A venue pre-sale will take place from 10.00am on Wednesday 25th March, before going on general sale at 10.00am on Friday 27th March, available from www.thewonderstuff.co.uk
