Critically acclaimed vocalist, spoken word artist, composer, producer, broadcaster, entrepreneur and music industry figure, Emily Saunders has made a long-awaited return to re-release the ethereal jazz of ‘Moon’ (radio edit), a slick, stripped-back edit of the 2015 album track that showcases Emily’s stunning vocals.
Emily releases this lush tune just ahead of 3 UK Live shows: at B Music Birmingham Women In (E)Motion 10th March, with Black Voices and Agaama, WOW Festival London 11th March and headlining Colchester Arts Centre 23rd April.
‘Moon’ (radio edit) is atmospheric, textural and mellow, edging into the light and back into the shade, as Emily’s intoxicating scat vocals ebb and flow gracefully. There will be some brand new singles from Spring this year, which will see Emily share an exciting evolution of her sound, lyrics and spoken word. The new material will drop ahead of the Autumn release of Emily’s hotly anticipated third album 'Moon Shifts Oceans', which will launch with a full UK Tour with dates to be announced, supported by Arts Council England and PRS Foundation.
'Moon Shifts Oceans' is the follow up to Emily’s debut long player ‘Cotton Skies’ (2011) and ‘Outsiders Insiders’ (2015). The new album will dive deep into concepts of community and connection. It has been written with a social conscience and will be an immersive multimedia project, revealing unheard and unseen voices, in an honest and uplifting experience that will be a spectacle of live music and animation.
Emily Saunders said “Waking in the morning or just walking down the road, my mind trips over melodies, riffs, bass grooves, and words becoming lyrics and poems, reflecting the world we see around us, and experiences I have had. I love painting pictures with sound, textures, and language, that capture moments in time, enabling me to say what I feel I need to say. So I’m excited to return to releasing music for 2023 with this streamlined edit of ‘Moon’ and so much more to follow with new singles and my third album ‘Moon Shifts Oceans’!”
Dubbed the "UK's queen of jazz-fusion", Emily Saunders balances her virtuosity and adventurous musicianship of the highest order with a catchy pop sensibility, that sees her voice dance around infectious tunes that worm their way into your brain and stay there. As a socially conscious wordsmith and supremely talented songwriter, many of her songs reflect on society, the fragility of people and the strength of connectivity, oozing hazy sunshiny days and hot sultry nights. Her heady mix of Latin-infused hip swaying grooves, with driving basslines, infectious melodies, and edges of drum ‘n’ bass, has seen Gilles Peterson pronounce Saunders as “one for the jazz dance clubs”.
Emily’s music has achieved Top 10 in international iTunes and Amazon charts in the UK, USA, Germany, France and Indonesia, receiving multiple 4 star reviews including: Evening Standard, Guardian, Independent, and Daily Telegraph. Her music has received plays on BBC Radio 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, Jazz FM as well as national stations around the world, in the US, Japan, Australia, Spain, Denmark, Germany, Sweden, Italy, Abu Dhabi, México, Uruguay, South Korea and South Africa.
Emily has been on a creative hiatus over the past five years, and through the lockdown she developed and launched ConnectsMusic, a free platform aimed at independent musicians and venues that now has a community, or directory, of over 5,000. Each microsite page on ConnectsMusic is like a dedicated LinkTree, Smart URL or an EPK, that contains all the superlinks to an artist’s music, stories, channels and outlets and most importantly music, all in one place. Emily is also a music industry advocate and is a board director of AIM and on the Musicians Union Executive Committee.
