With over 7 million streams in less than a month and nods from NME, DIY and Radio 1, the independent singer-songwriter has dropped the music video for recent single ‘She Likes a Boy’, filmed in their Manchester hometown.
Working with creative director Miro, who they collaborate regularly with in Manchester’s scene, the video sees Nxdia finding comfort and acceptance in a seemingly strange underworld. The video pays homage to classic horror cinema, complete with glitchy visuals and Nxdia’s comical performance.
Talking about the video, Nxdia says
”i'm so so excited to share the music video with you this valentines!
so many people have been kind enough to share their personal stories with me and told me how this song is kinda a soundtrack to their queer awakening...I wanted to bring the song to life even more for them with a video for Valentine's day! I think we’ve all felt like clowns at some point or other, so it felt fun to go full clown with miro on this project!”
Switching between English and Arabic, the addictive yet sensitive indie-pop track reflects an all too familiar experience for many queer people who are still realising their sexuality whilst experiencing young unrequited love.
After teasing ‘She Likes a Boy’ online, fans quickly caught on and began hailing it a “queer anthem”. Over 16 million views later, fans have been making the song their own and championing it; using it to share their personal stories and highlighting queer icons from the world of literature, cinema, anime and beyond.
Through Nxdia’s lyrics and all the shared experiences pouring through the comments, people have found comfort in realising that those coming-of-age moments, that are often so isolating, are shared by many. It’s a slick and fierce piece of alt-pop that offers understanding, escapism and community.
Fun, charming and self-aware, Nxdia’s vibrant personality runs through the veins of their clever pop signature; using effortless flow and playful melodies to deliver lyrics about everything from economic austerity to mental health to self-identity.
Nxdia’s flair for crafting standout hits was ignited with their explosive single ‘OUCH’ in 2021, followed by the release of their debut EP ‘in the flesh’ in 2023. Their growing popularity has seen them perform on a variety of stages across the UK, including The Hundred 2023, Christine and the Queen’s Meltdown, London Pride, Liverpool Sound City and The Liverpool Arab Art Festival.
With inspirations ranging from the titans that raised them like Paramore and My Chemical Romance to contemporaries such as Dominic Fike and Stromae, Nxdia exemplifies a striking fusion that perfectly combines their Egyptian-Sudanese heritage with glitchy alt beats and an effortless delivery. They've spent the past year crafting new material with exciting producers across Europe and is set for a huge year ahead.
