Front woman Floriane Andersen from US/French vocal band Onyx & The Red Lips recently sat down with us to chat about their latest record Cinematic providing us with a track by track breakdown, here’s how we got on….
1: Cinematic:
FA - Cinematic is an ode to imagination. It invites us to escape from a boring reality to create your own story, using your creativity to make the world a better place.
2: Place On Earth:
FA - Place On Earth talks about the places we feel we belong to. Places that make us feel grounded, safe. Places we wish we could stay for ever. Places we miss. Places that define us.
3: Lucky Day:
FA - Lucky Day is a lucky charm. It’s a song to remind yourself to take perspective on things and being grateful for what we have. It’s about being proud to be different and embrace your uniqueness.
4: Your Soul:
FA - Your Soul is about helping someone struggling with illness (mental or physical) by supporting them and being there for them. (It’s a song for my dad, this album is dedicated to him)
5: Rise:
FA - Rise is an anthem for all women! It’s a wake-up call for those who were abused in their lives. It’s a call to stop being passive and make a change. It’s about speaking up.
6: Echo:
FA - Echo is about memories of the past. The images and feelings that shaped us and made us who we are. The places where we feel safe to express ourselves and our creativity.
7: Sorry:
FA - Sorry is an unapologetic break-up song. Funny and mischievous, a girl is stating her will to be on her own and that she doesn’t need her lover anymore.
8: Follow Me:
FA - Follow me is an invitation. It’s about commitment and having the courage to jump into the unknown with someone. (It’s also the very first song I’ve ever written.)
9: Cherry Lips:
FA - Cherry Lips is a cover from Garbage about transgenderism and embracing your difference.
10: Invisible:
FA - Invisible is a song about grief. It’s the mourning of a relationship. The hardship of going on with life when nothing has meaning anymore. It’s an open letter to someone who will never be part of our life anymore.
