After finding out that London based indie rockers Coral Palms were performing at The English Riviera Food and Music Festival, we just had to get in touch and find out a bit more about them. We chat about their favourite food, dream dinner guests, musical influences and more….
You're called Coral Palms, you're a four piece indie indie band from London, you recently released a new track called 'Promises', tell me something fascinating about the band or a member that not many people will know
That’s a big question. Not sure how much we can say.. Adriano our guitar player is a producer, so since day one we have produced all our music in house. That’s a safe one.
Coral Palms is an interesting name, is it linked to Torbay (palm trees) in any way?
You got it, it’s partly inspired by it. Also an episode of ‘Brooklyn 99’. Generally the beach, the tropical vibes tied in with the city. That’s always going to be our marriage of locations.
It says that you're 'London based' but I thought you were all from Torquay, have you all made the move to the big smoke? Which do you prefer?
We’re heavily inspired by Torquay and we spend a lot of time there and it’s influence on our formation is central to the band with it being Ollie’s hometown. Now we’re based in London, I think again a balance of the two is necessary for us. Sometimes we need the city, sometimes the sea.
You play a fab blend of indie-pop and rock and your new track 'Promises' sounds great, which bands or artists would you say have helped to shape your sound?
I think we’re heavily influenced by indie rock, not exclusively but bands such as Two Door Cinema Club and Arctic Monkeys have been big influences for us. We’ve also got slightly electronic tastes in the form of SG Lewis. We just like good music, as graduates of music our influences are very eclectic.
You're going to be playing at the English Riviera Food & Music Festival on Monday 29th May, what can people expect from your set?
High energy. We’re going to smash it.
As you're performing at the English Riviera Food & Music Festival, tell me about your FAVOURITE food?
Haha, we’ll this will make a sound very basic but when we are all together we normally just go for a maccies or to the pizza bar next to the studio. We’re about as basic as it’s gets collectively.
Which of the other acts on the bill over the weekend are you most looking forward to watching?
Razorlight for sure. The Vamps, St Raymond.
You're hosting a dinner party, what will YOU be cooking for your guests? (starter, main and dessert please)
Starter, garlic prawns. Main a rare steak with blue cheese sauce. Desert, hot chocolate fudge cake. Easy.
Talking of guests, who will you be inviting? (they can be dead or alive)
I think we’d like to sit down with Quincy Jones but it would probably get a little intense.
I know that you only just released your new track 'Promises', but please tell me about any new music, future gigs/festivals that you have lined up....
We’re hopefully heading down to Brighton for The Great Escape and we’ve got some big shows in London and Hertford.
Where is the best place to keep up to date with your musical happenings?
