On October 29th, Devon based retro funk pop trio PATTERN PUSHER will release their ‘Sunrise’ EP, should you be excited? You bet your bottom dollar you should be and here’s why!
Recently cited as one of NME’s hidden gems due to their barnstorming performances at Boardmaster’s festival, the plucky trio continue their mission to uplift anyone in earshot with infectiously optimistic, vintage-tinged music that is hitting all the right notes in a world crying out for positivity.
Formed of 5 tracks, the ‘Sunrise’ EP is a beacon of light, something that you can reach out and grasp in these somewhat uncertain times, hit play and let the tracks transport you to a place, a good place which is without worry or woe and doesn’t judge you if you want to let your hair down and dance like nobody’s watching.
Opening the EP is ‘Happy Place’, a track which oozes funk and pop from every pore, you want super catchy riffs and infectious melodies, here you go, you want fries with that? No problem! ‘Happy Place’ has enjoyed several BBC Radio 2 spot plays and has even featured on the official Formula 1 and Liverpool FC Spotify playlists. It is also the soundtrack for BBC Radio 4 and BBC Sounds trailers.
Next up we have ‘Come Along’, which features some impressive wah-wah guitar work, firmly placing it as the love child of The Brand New Heavies and Jamiroquai. ‘Another Girl’ evokes memories of summer, lost love and the carefree days of youth, the lyrics reference “daisy-chains and Polaroids”, brilliant! The track is fantastically layered and has more hooks than a fisherman’s tackle box. ‘Hey Dude’ is a piano heavy, soulful ballad with clever lyrics and a sound that wouldn’t appear out of place on an early Elton John record.
Closing this impressive EP is ‘Find The Light’, with the EP going full circle, this track lifts you up and deposits you safely back on the dance floor to cut the rug one more time before it comes to a close.
This truly is a masterpiece of an EP which should be celebrated by their fans, if the rich production values and mixing are anything to go by just imagine what their debut album is going to sound like!
