Back in 2006, the Arctic Monkeys released Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not, a brash, swaggering debut that changed the landscape of indie rock overnight. It was raw, witty, and soaked in the sweat of British nightlife. Fast-forward almost two decades, and the ghost of that era lingers on – or worse, it’s been repackaged and sold back to us in a way that feels stale, calculated, and depressingly uninspired.

Tonight, Exeter Phoenix hosted another of its legendary New Band Showcase events, this was not the first and most certainly won’t be the last and looking back over the last few years, I have been turned on to some killer bands thanks to these events.

Chicago, US-Knuckle Puck, have released the gritty and anthemic track "Nice To Know Ya".

Hot on the heels of unleashing their #1 charting sophomore album ‘Mutation’, Australian heavy alt-rock powerhouses RedHook are extending the celebrations across the UK and Europe, announcing their first ever headline tour for April/May 2025.

Last fall, when Circuit des Yeux (aka CdY, aka Haley Fohr) released the stand-alone single ‘God Dick’, she described the song as a passage leading from the past toward things to come. “It served a chrysalis function,” wrote Fohr. “A love banshee bursting through porcelain skin one hair at a time until, finally, the beast within is fully on display.” Out March 14th, Halo on the Inside is the product of that metamorphosis. It is the butterfly and the beast – a rhapsodic, hedonistic, dance floor-adjacent, pagan-friendly, horns-adorning wall of sound and emotion. Halo on the Inside finds CdY renewed, recombinant, and thrillingly alien.

Mid Wales / Bristol based Alt Rock Band Moletrap release their brand new single entitled 'Taffy (Flags of Aber Prom)' on Friday 24th January.

Nirvana’s debut album, Bleach, released in 1989, marks the genesis of a band that would come to define a generation. Recorded at Reciprocal Recording Studios in Seattle with a modest budget of $606.17, the album captures the raw, unrefined energy that characterised the early grunge scene. It’s an essential artifact from a time when grunge was still taking shape, offering a gritty, honest glimpse into Nirvana’s beginnings.

Ultimate folk troubadour, punk pioneer, and fly-fisherman extraordinaire CHUCK RAGAN has released his new album LOVE AND LORE  via Rise Records. “The creation is usually the most exciting part of the process and being able to share the songs is always a blessing.”

UNITY TX have announced they will be returning to the UK in Spring 2025. The band will be supporting Thrown on their upcoming headline tour and joining Crystal Lake, and Graphic Nature as supports.

Albany-raised pop-punk band State Champs have announced a 13-date tour across the EU and UK in Winter 2025.

The UK shows will see support from label mate KOYO and Shoreline.

Wage War return to the UK in February to support Papa Roach as well as very special headline shows around the UK. 

SET IT OFF will be touring the UK on a headline tour early 2025 supported by Point North.
