I came across Elsie's new track 'Crying' on Soundcloud, loved it and decided to hunt her down (no stalking was involved at any stage of my search).
After much tube riding (London Underground) I finally caught up with her in a Soho hairdressing salon where I held her to ransom with a pair of curling tongues until she agreed to take part in the musicmuso interview, here's how it went….
Introduce yourself and your music in one sentence/paragraph/chapter…. I'm from Ellesmere Port, North West England. I'm constantly recording in my studio in London with my writing partner Tatron. I write from the heart and about things I know. I collaborate with other artists and producers on Sound cloud too. I'm all about making tunes that I like, and when people listen and like them there's no better feeling! My music style's kind of electro bass pop, pure yet dark with melancholic melodies and heavy drums.
Last time you used public transport and where did you go? Got the tube into Soho to get my hair done and have a little shop on Oxford Street. I loves a good old shop I do!!!
Last time you felt proud? When you told me that you liked my song Crying and wanted to feature it on your blog!
What classic song do you wish you recorded and why? Tracks Of My Tears - Smokey Robinson. It's one of the only songs that comes on my ipod and I stop what I'm doing to sing it all the way through. The lyrics paint a vivid picture and I feel as if I wrote it when I'm singing it. It's just one of those amazing songs that makes you live it when it plays.
Last movie you saw? American Hustle, don't go on a normal (expensive) night, wait for an Orange Wednesday, it's a little slow! Christian Bale made it for me.
Last book you read? 'Hidden In Plain Sight' by an amazing woman called Zainab Salbi. So inspiring!
What did you dream about last night? I can't remember, but my regular one is a rolling pin rolling out a never ending ball of dough. I need to see Mystic Meg about that one as I don't even own a rolling pin! Must remember to put that on my Christmas list!
Last time you cried? Last week when I found out that an English Bull Terrier was being put to sleep because no one could re-home him. This happens a lot in this country and it breaks my heart every time. Please buy from rescue shelters, not from breeders!!
Biggest musical influence? Mariah Carey. She made me want to learn to sing back in 1992. I wanted to do what she was doing and now I do but in a completely different way. I still love her now, always will.
Best gig you ever played? My hometown Ellesmere Port Civic Hall last year. Me and the boys drove up from London, all my family were there and it went down a storm. I have strong memories from that gig. I'm so lucky to have a great band and an awesome family.
How much is a pint of milk? 83p? I'm crap with money and I live in London so they throw another 100% on everything down here. It'd be cheaper to buy your own cow.
Best band/artist of 2013? Gorgeous George, they've got it going on. I've watched them live and they're electrifying! I also love Flume. He's got his own thing going on production wise with great unique ideas.
Last time you had a fight? A fight? I don't fight but I did get angry last time I got ID'd at a Co-op and I told the shopkeeper she was a 'jobsworth' because she wouldn't let me buy my beer. Don't deny me beer or you will get called names, no matter how young and youthful you think I look!
Best advice you ever received and who was it from? If you're not gonna do anything about it, stop moaning and I said it to myself!
Largest amount spent in a single purchase? (excluding houses) My first car that, unfortunately, got burnt out round the back of some shops in Ellesmere Port. I still miss him, he took me to all my first gigs and never failed me. I'm a bad mother. He didn't even make it onto Crimewatch. Waste of a life, poor boy. RIP Trev.
Whilst she was selecting her new 'hair do' from those big black and white books you get in hairdressing salon's (my barber used to have vintage copies of 'Razzle' (s Gentleman's publication of erotic nature) on the coffee table to read, appalling I know as I was only 8!) we rolled out the quick fire big guns and socked them to her….
Regular or decaff? Tea NEVER coffee
Coke or Pepsi? Pepsi
Mac or PC? Mac
Holidays - Hot or Cold? Hot
Big Mac or Whopper? McChicken Sandwich
CD or Vinyl? CD
Car or Motorbike? Motorbike (in my dreams)
Cat or Dog? Dog
Acoustic or Electric? (Guitar) Electric
Angelina or Jennifer? Angelina (she has powers)
Full English Breakfast (bacon/eggs/mushrooms/toast etc) or Cereal? Full Veggie English I don't eat pigs, they're cleverer than dogs.
Starbucks or Costa? Pret cause their tea bags are tastier!
So, that's the super talented Elsie from Ellesmere Port, next time you see her, you can dazzle her with your knowledge of her (does that sound creepy?)….
She also sings for Sir Tom Jones, so if you see him pop up on TV, she's the blonde girl having fun behind him.
Now, there's a voice (can you see what I did there…..did you?)
So come on folks, let's get behind Elsie and support some proper home grown British talent, she is an amazing singer and deserves at least 5 minutes of your time to see what she's all about….
