About Vision Video
Vision Video is a post-punk goth rock band from Athens, Georgia that injects modern malaise into classic sounds of the late 70's and 80's. The band pays homage to classics like the Chameleons, the Cult, and the Cure, while also bringing a refreshing modern element to the genre. Their music is intense and uncompromising, but accessible and familiar to fans of alternative rock.
Thematically their music explores the effects of trauma on the human psyche and finding stability and agency in an insane world. Co-vocalist and keyboardist Emily Fredock brings balance to the darkness through her intensely fun energy, both in the music and in their renowned live performances. Having served in Afghanistan with the army and as a firefighter in the civilian world, lead singer and guitarist Dusty Gannon is no stranger to the darker proclivities of humanity and death itself. Gannon shares,
"I wanted to write music that helped people remember that it's okay to not be okay, but that also doesn't shy away from taking a stern look at the darker aspects of our flawed human existence."
The band's first two records were met with critical praise, such as from Pitchfork stating they create "dreamy tunes tailor-made for the sort of wallflower who sprints to the dancefloor the instant the DJ drops ‘Age of Consent’ or ‘Primary’ at Goth Night". Dusty was also featured on the cover of Fangoria Magazine in October 2023, which featured a five-page editorial feature on the band. Vision Video has been growing exponentially on social media since its beginning. With an ever-evolving portfolio of music videos on YouTube and TikTok videos, Dusty's character videos featuring "Goth Dad" have won the hearts of hundreds of thousands of followers, while seamlessly promoting their music and touring schedule.
The band has completed 8 major tours to date, including the US, the UK, and Europe. They continuously attract larger and larger crowds, often selling out venues in the 300-500 capacity range. Their debut LP "Inked in Red" and second LP "Haunted Hours", were both recorded and mixed by Tom Ashton of The March Violets at Sub Von Studios in Athens, Georgia. Vision Video will soon record their next LP "Modern Horror" at Maze Studios in Atlanta headed by Grammy award-winning producer Ben Allen.
About Balaclava Kiss
‘Balaclava Kiss,’ the highly anticipated recent single from modern goth rock band Vision Video, promises to captivate listeners with its brooding atmosphere and soaring melodies. Released on the 10th of July, this single is a taste of what’s to come in their upcoming album, set to dominate playlists later this year.
‘Balaclava Kiss’ weaves together poignantly poetic lyrics and lavishly layered instrumentals, showcasing the band's signature blend of ethereal synths, driving basslines, and evocative guitar riffs. Frontman Dusty Gannon's mesmerising vocals, dripping with raw emotion, soar over the dynamic soundscape below. All the while, co-vocalist and keyboardist Emily Fredock perfectly compliments Dusty’s commanding melodic lines with her striking vocal tone and powerful
performance prowess. Vision Video remains unwavering in their exploration of the human psyche in their lyrics, and ‘Balaclava Kiss’ is no different, as the track delves deep into the complexity of the human condition. Speaking on the creative process of ‘Balaclava Kiss’, frontman Dusty Gannon shares, "I take a lot of inspiration from my observations of interesting imagery that I see in the world. I saw a picture a while back of someone raising up a balaclava to kiss a person, and it felt like such a beautiful, dualistic image that inspired the spirit of the song. Balaclava Kiss is essentially a protest song that we wrote about the rise of fascist, right-wing ideology in the world. Here in America we're watching an intense commitment to the denigration of human rights, both through domestic and foreign policy. Seeing the unmasking of things like Project 2025 and Trump's appointed Supreme Court rolling back decades of legal precedents that protected human rights and freedoms is both alarming and sickening, but conversely the Democratic party supporting the unabashed attempted genocide of Palestinians is equally disturbing. This song is all about getting out into the streets and protesting, but in a non-violent, non-compliant sort of way- and with the police and corporate surveillance becoming so pervasive, balaclavas are an excellent way to subvert facial recognition algorithms!"
With such an important sentiment at the heart of this single, ‘Balaclava Kiss’ is poised to become an instant classic in the rock realm on its release. Showcasing their unique brand of modern goth rock, ‘Balaclava Kiss’ cements Vision Video’s place as torchbearers of the genre right now.
