RELEASE: Oswald Slain’s new single “Have You Got What You Came Here For?” brings alpine anthems to your playlist

August 29, 2025

When Bristol’s Oswald Slain dropped “Have You Got What You Came Here For?” on August 22nd, they delivered a full-throttle snapshot of drunken bar gigs in the French Alps, moonlit ski-lodge revelry, and DIY rock ’n’ roll spirit.

After their acclaimed April EP KISS ME ON THE MOUTH, Oswald Slain returned to their DIY setup—this time infusing fresh tour-tales into their sonic palette. Tracked in their Bristol home studio with producer-in-arms Ryan Rogers (Mumble Tide), the single crackles with fuzzy guitars, slamming drums, and a bassline that refuses to stay still.

Charlie Fitzgerald conjured the lyrics one morning after a raucous set at Morzine’s Cavern bar, where après-ski crowds demanded sing-alongs and dancefloor classics. The result is an angsty, risqué rocker with a title as long as its list of high-spirited memories. Fitzgerald recalls:

“The track came alive in the studio with Ryan laying down all the incredible bass bits and Rhii just slaying that drum part. It’s definitely the terrier on the upcoming album and stands out from the crowd… hopefully in a good way.”

Oswald Slain’s latest single pulses with a high-energy groove tailor-made for live sing-alongs, pairing wry, self-aware lyrics with a playful nod to youthful rebellion and the messy beauty of growing up. It’s a cheeky throwback to ‘90s dance-floor euphoria—imagine Sophie Ellis Bextor swaggering through a retro rock set—while channeling the sweaty, communal thrill of festival tents and late-night bar chaos.

“Have You Got What You Came Here For?” is the first taste of BUCKY, the band’s eight-track debut album. Written and recorded almost live—in the mornings they penned new ideas, by afternoon they’d be capturing them raw—BUCKY is an unvarnished document of surrender, growth, and hopeful noise. Fitzgerald sums it up perfectly:

“We weren’t seeking perfection but it felt good not to be too precious about anything. It was nice to make something that felt honest, fun and vulnerable.”

As Oswald Slain gear up for BUCKY’s release, expect this single to become a live favorite—from UK festival fields to cosy club rooms. Whether you’re planning your next ski trip soundtrack or just hunting for an adrenaline-fueled anthem, “Have You Got What You Came Here For?” has your answer.

BUCKY lands on October 24th—mark your calendars now!
