SKAL dig deep with gritty new single ‘Dig Me Up’ ahead of debut EP launch....

There is a raw honesty running through the best indie-rock music, and Cheshire five-piece Skal tap directly into that spirit on their new single, Dig Me Up. Released today across all major streaming platforms, the track serves as both the lead single and title track from the band's forthcoming debut EP, arriving digitally and on 12" vinyl on 13 November.

Emerging from Winsford with a sound that blends Northern indie swagger, post-punk urgency and groove-driven alternative rock, Skal are quickly building a reputation for delivering songs that hit hard both musically and emotionally. Dig Me Up finds the band tackling the aftermath of excess, exploring sleepless nights, chemical escapism and the uncomfortable reality that follows a weekend spent chasing highs.

At its core, the track captures a familiar feeling. While friends return to the routine of Monday morning and the responsibilities of the working week, the song's narrator remains trapped in a cycle of exhaustion and regret. It's a theme that resonates throughout the single, driven by spiralling guitar lines, pounding rhythms and a vocal performance that balances vulnerability with defiance.

The track's central refrain, “All my friends are back to work on Monday, just dig me up again”, perfectly encapsulates the push and pull between wanting to prolong moments of escape while confronting the consequences left behind. Rather than glorifying excess, Skal present an honest snapshot of its emotional fallout, wrapped inside anthemic indie-rock hooks.

Drawing influence from the widescreen atmosphere of The Verve, the infectious eccentricity of The Zutons and the swaggering energy of Kasabian, the band have crafted a sound that feels both familiar and refreshingly contemporary. It's music steeped in Northern identity, yet ambitious enough to reach well beyond its hometown roots.

Dig Me Up also marks the beginning of an important chapter for the band. The single paves the way for their debut five-track EP of the same name, due for release on 13 November. To celebrate the launch, Skal will headline Liverpool's District venue on 20 November, joined by support acts Delaner and North Echo.

For a band still at the beginning of their journey, Dig Me Up feels like a significant statement of intent. With its blend of soaring indie-rock melodies, hard-edged realism and unmistakable Northern character, Skal have delivered a debut release that suggests bigger things are only just getting started.

‘Dig Me Up’ is available now on all major streaming platforms. The debut EP follows on 13 November, with the launch show taking place at District, Liverpool, on 20 November.
