If long hair (and I mean LONG hair) and grungy riffs are your thing, you need to pop along to The Apple & Parrot in Torquay at 2pm where a band called EL MOONO will be gracing the stage for your entertainment.
They are playing as part of the BURN IT DOWN FESTIVAL that is taking place over 10th and 11th September across three venues in the heart of Torquay.
I caught up with the drummer (Chris) and had a chat about the festival and what the audience can expect….
It's been a hell of a year for bands, what does it mean to you to be playing a festival once again?
I mean to me it feels surreal talking about festivals after the year we have just had. But I can’t wait to be back on stage with the boys in front of an audience to be honest! It’s daunting but it’s definitely outweighed by excitement for sure.
Burn it Down Festival takes place in September, looking at the lineup, which of the bands are you most excited about sharing the stage with?
There is quite a few if I am honest! Firstly there is fellow Brightonieers CLT DRP, who I have never really had the chance to properly see them live which I am looking forward to. We have played with We Never Learned To Live, Mother Vulture and Phoxjaw and they are all lovely, so it would be great to see them all again. But I can’t wait to see Palm Reader as Zac showed me their new album recently, and Dinosaur Pile-Up.
For anyone who may not have heard you before, what type of music do you perform?
Christ haha good question! We are mainly sat in grunge territory, but we have loads of different influences such as metal, prog, math-rock, shoe-gaze, hardcore, the list is virtually endless!
Can you describe a typical live performance (if there is such a thing)?
Well firstly you are guaranteed to see a lot of hair. But we are loud, and we aren’t shy of a breakdown or two!
Lastly, where can people check out your music and keep up to date with you on the socials?
We are on all the socials, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Spotify and other music sites
We have kept busy through the pandemic, so give us a cheeky follow if you want to see what we have been up to!
Catch El Moono destroying the stage at The Apple & Parrot on Saturday 11th September from 2pm, DON’T BE LATE!
