We were invited along to catch FEEDER playing their final date of a sold out UK tour in Exeter, whilst we didn't get time to chat to the guys at the venue, they were kind enough to take our questions and get them answered once the madness had died down. Grab yourselves a drink and read all about Grant's latest pet, what they love about being on the road and most importantly, who would be in their own 'Supergroup'....
There's a lot of information out there about FEEDER on the internet, I'd like you to tell me something about the band that NOT many people know....
Probably a lot of what's on the internet is incorrect but Taka and myself both like The Carpenters.
Grant, you joined your first band 'Sweet leaf' after seeing the mighty Black Sabbath perform, what do you remember about that gig and what did you learn from Ozzy about being a frontman?
I just wanted to be a guitarist at that age but i remember being blown away by the drum sound and the guitar riffs. Ozzy was an entertaining front man also.
You named the band after your Goldfish, I doubt that you have the same goldfish now but if you have another one, is it still called Feeder?
No i just have a Burmese cat now called Bamboo, she is a real character and follows me everywhere.
You were labeled many years ago as the UK's answer to Smashing Pumpkins, were these guys a big influence on your early music?
I think my influences go back way further but we have always felt some connection to the Pumpkins sonically and dynamically. They are great band.
To date, you've released nine studio albums, two EP's and thirty four singles, an amazing feat for any band, what do you think has kept you going as a band over the years?
I still have a massive passion for writing songs and we feel we have so much more to do as a band musically and live . The break has ignited a new spark and energy in the band.
You've come to the end of your Autumn tour in support of your new album 'All Bright Electric', what have been the highlights along the way?
It's been a fantastic sold out tour and we are so happy to be back. The support from the fans has been incredible also and we are chuffed to have another top ten album.
What do you LOVE about touring? and what do you HATE about it?
I love seeing different countries, cultures and cities whilst on tour and playing new songs is always fun. The worst bit is being away from our families and the constant travelling can wear you down sometimes. Trying to keep away from sick crew on the bus is always difficult also as it spreads like the plague .
If you could form your very own supergroup, who would be in it?
Thom Yorke, PJ Harvey, Jack White, Frank Black, Josh Homme, E from the EELS, Tom Petty, Billy Corgan, Geoff Lynne, Dave Grohl, Alex Turner, Neil Young .......The list goes on.
If you could give just one piece of advice to a band just starting out on their own musical journey, what would it be?
Follow your dreams and get a good manager!
We thought we'd ask Grant to take part in a quick game of 'Would you Rather', he seemed up for it, here's how he got on....
Would you rather be 3 feet tall or 8 feet tall?
Neither
Would you rather live with a dog that sings lullabies or a gorilla that can do sign language?
A dog or cat that could sing lullabies would be nice and great to entertain the kids.
Would you rather drink cider from a lemon or have a house in Devon?
A house in Devon please, beautiful part of the country.
Would you rather play one MASSIVE show a year or play twelve monthly gigs at intimate venues?
I think 12 more intimate gigs with varying set lists .One big one would not be enough.
Would you rather fight one horse sized chicken or ten chicken sized horses?
I think a one horse sized chicken with one leg.
Would you rather be Donald Trump's hair stylist or listen to 'Agadoo' by Black Lace, once a day for the rest of your life?
Both options give me the fear.
We'd like to thank Grant for taking the time out to answer our questions and we wish him and the band all the very best for the future. If you've NOT heard the new album yet, there's a link for it below, do yourself a favour and get it bought, it really is an impressive piece of work.
