HOPE & GLORY FESTIVAL is a weekend of incredible live music, art and outrageous silliness
in the heart of Liverpool. This brand new festival for Liverpool, taking place on 5 & 6 August, is set against the stunning Victorian backdrop of the World Museum, City Library and St. George’s Hall and Gardens.
Amongst the stellar lineup which includes JAMES, RAZORLIGHT & OCEAN COLOUR SCENE, is a great indie rock 4 piece called STARSAILOR, you may remember them for hits such as "Silence is Easy" and "Four to the Floor" (check out the videos below). We chatted to James from the band about the festival and their plans for the remainder of the summer....
How does it feel to be playing the inaugural Hope & Glory Festival, in Liverpool this August? Have you been to Liverpool before? And do you have any fond memories of Liverpool?
We’re really excited to be playing the first hope and glory festival. I’m in Liverpool all the time watching my favourite football team and heading out into town. I love it. I remember we recorded some b-sides at Parr St and headed out for a memorable night on Mathew St after the session.
The line-up for Hope & Glory is really exciting and fans are in for ‘A Festival of Anthems’. What do you think makes the perfect festival anthem? and what is your favourite?
It’s hard to pinpoint what exactly makes a festival anthem. Celebratory lyrics and an upbeat mood are good. ‘North Country Boy’ by The Charlatans is my festival anthem. Its joyous
Are there any other bands on the bill you are hoping to see?
The line up’s amazing. I’ve been lucky enough to see a lot of the acts before but I’ve heard great things about Charlotte Church’s show so I’m looking forward to catching that. Badly Drawn Boy is brilliant too. It’s been a while since I saw him.
It is 50 years since the release of The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s. What do The Beatles mean to you? Do they influence your music?
The Beatles are a massive influence. They were the best band in the world without a doubt. The sheer range of their output from the simple raw rock n roll of the early albums to the experimentation of Revolver and beyond & with beautiful melodies throughout. There are few true geniuses in music. Most artists are just incredibly good at what they do but they were genius.
Do you have a favourite Sgt. Pepper’s track?
A Day In The Life is epic
What are your plans for the rest of the year after you play Hope & Glory?
We’ve got a couple more festivals after Hope & Glory then we release our album ‘All This Life’ on Sept 1st followed by a tour starting in October so it’s going to be a busy end to the year!
We'd like to thank James for sparing his time to chat to us and we look forward to seeing them at Hope & Glory in Liverpool. As he said above, their 5th studio album All This Life lands on September 1st, why not pre-order it HERE and look forward to it landing on your doorstep on the day!
