Nashville’s rising punk trio Winona Fighter have dropped the deluxe edition of their debut album, My Apologies To The Chef, and it’s not just a re-release — it’s a full-bodied reimagining. Out now via Rise Records, the expanded version features acoustic takes on every track from the original record, plus covers of Beastie Boys’ “Sabotage” and Violent Femmes’ “Blister In The Sun,” and a new single, “(Don’t Get) CLOSE.”
But this isn’t just a stripped-back remix. It’s a window into the band’s soul — three musicians huddled around a mic, guitars in hand, letting the imperfections breathe. “These recordings are as raw as it gets,” says frontwoman Coco Kinnon. “We just love to play — especially together — and this project gave us the chance to step outside the artist title and just be a band.”
That spirit of togetherness pulses through every track. From the fiery opener “JUMPERCABLES” to the defiant “Swear To God That I’m (FINE),” the album channels frustration, humor, and catharsis in equal measure. Coco’s lyrics are unflinching — dating abuse, substance struggles, and emotional burnout are all laid bare, but never without a flicker of hope or a punchline that lands like a gut-check.
Take “I’M IN THE MARKET TO PLEASE NO ONE,” born from a therapy letter Coco never meant to share. Now it’s a rallying cry for anyone reclaiming their voice. “Originally, I wrote it for me,” she says, “but now it feels like it’s for everyone. And there’ll be these big-ass grown dudes in the audience scream-singing it — so I think it means a lot to more than just the young women I had intended it to be for.”
The band’s journey — from flyering outside festivals they weren’t booked for, to selling out shows across the US and UK — is stitched into the DNA of My Apologies To The Chef. The final track, “DON’T WALLOW,” turns that hustle into a mantra: stay uncomfortable, stay hungry, stay loud.
With limited edition vinyl now available for pre-order and a fall tour that includes a Vans Warped Tour stop in Orlando, Winona Fighter are proving that punk isn’t just a sound — it’s a way of showing up, scars and all.
