INTRODUCING LONDON BASED FOLK/RHYTHM & BLUES ARTIST, RICHARD MAULE....

January 28, 2015

Richard Maule is a London based folk/rhythm & blues singer who loves his 'loopy pedal' (not the technical name) and iPad, he sent me some really cool music to check out a little while ago and I liked it so much, I invited him to take part in our 'Introducing' feature where all the stars of today have cut their teeth.

Remember Sam Smith? Ella Eyre? Rae Morris? none of these have taken it upon themselves to reply to my begging emails and look where they are! still attending open mic nights in Walthamstow, begging for a night on a strangers couch, anyway, I digress.....

We met up with Richard in a good old traditional London boozer where we ordered 2 pints of 'mild', sat down in a booth and had a good old chat about desert island discs, cool hangouts in Camden and Bill Withers, here's how we got on....

January 28, 2015

Formed in 2013, Patrons come from a city by the sea in the South West, UK. Born out of long-standing friendships and a common love of the unconventional, Patrons make a noise that gives a nod to the expanse of bands like This Will Destroy You and Thrice, yet also a tip of the hat to the stop-start rhythms of bands like Reuben and La Dispute.

CHRIS FORSYTH & THE SOLAR MOTEL BAND - INTENSITY GHOST - ALBUM REVIEW

January 26, 2015

There is a school thought which argues that Television's 1997 masterpiece "Marquee Moon" has never been bettered. It was a record where dual guitar interplay hit heights hereto not scaled since "Live at Filmore East" and where the songs were so good that if they were a rugby team they would be wearing an All Blacks jersey. Huge appreciation therefore can go out to Chris Forsyth & The Solar Motel Band on "Intensity ghost" for not only reminding the listener of the Verlaine/Lloyd partnership but on occasions aspiring to the some of that lofty ambition.

THE VULTURES ANNOUNCE THE RELEASE OF THEIR DEBUT ALBUM 'THREE MOTHERS PART 1'....

January 26, 2015

Straining at the seams with eerie majesty and bewitching melodies, the debut album by neo-gothic alt-pop maestros, THE VULTURES, will be released on February 9 2015 on Ciao Ketchup Recordings. ‘Three Mothers Part 1’ will be available on 12” vinyl and all digital download platforms. Arriving in the wake of the band’s acclaimed double-A sided single, ‘Vlad’/‘Cancer’, this sensual, sinister and proudly singular record is an orchestral post-punk masterclass in noirish songcraft.

BUTCH WALKER - AFRAID OF GHOSTS - ALBUM REVIEW

January 25, 2015

Butch Walker’s latest offering is filled with heart wrenching passion devoted to his late father, the lead single Fathers Day is gentle, soulful and from the heart as is the whole album. Opening track Afraid of Ghosts is raw and delicate whilst follow up track I Love You is tender and sweet reminding me of the love songs that Train have so wonderfully delivered to newly weds in recent years.
