I’ve been tweeting Kane Robinson (aka Kano) several times over the last year or so, wondering about any new material. I know that a new series of Top Boy is forthcoming this autumn but I was really missing his hyperactive flow. Finally, fresh tunes arise, at just the right time.

I received an email the other day from a PR company with the new single from an immensely talented young lady called YASMIN KIDDLE. I receive about 50 emails a day and as I was browsing through them, something caught my eye. It mentioned that STEVE CRADOCK (Ocean Colour Scene) heard one of her tracks over the phone and took it upon himself to arrange a meeting with her and offered her the use of his and Paul Weller’s studios to record her debut EP. Being a massive OCS and Weller fan, I wanted to learn more about this fantastic lady. We got in touch with her people and they were kind enough to hook us up with Yasmin for a quick chat about how it felt to work with Steve Cradock, her thoughts on the music scene in 2019 and how she feels about opening up for Ocean Colour Scene at three Scottish live shows, here’s how we got on….

Owing to the nature of where we’re based, we rarely get the chance to reach out to bands or artists outside of the UK but from time to time, we do. We recently chatted to an indie rock quartet called NEW CHUMS who are based in Phoenix, Arizona which as the crow flies is 5180 miles away, a little further afield than we’re used to….

We caught up with Matt Lloyd from the band to chat about their latest single, music videos and future plans to play in Europe, read on to see how we got on….

I recently ran an interview feature with Exeter based multi genred quartet WITTERQUICK, during which I learned that they were playing a 6 date UK tour, culminating in a homecoming show at The Cavern in the heart of Exeter on July 26th, I just had to be at the show to see what all the hype was about….

After weeks of sunshine where festivals that normally fall fowl to the curse of disastrous weather conditions (Glastonbury), it was pure bad luck that I woke on the morning of day one of Chagstock to the sound of hard rain falling. I always plan for mixed weather conditions and ensure that I pack accordingly, plenty of layers, waterproof jacket, walking boots or wellies and a bin liner to put all the soiled garments in when I finally pack up after spending the weekend yomping about in a field overlooking the Chagford hills. The forecast looked like things were going to improve and as at 11am, the rain had eased off, the clouds were still there but it looks like things might dry up a bit in time for the first acts to hit the stages.

Yasmin Kiddle is a self-taught musician (guitar, bass, drums and, for good measure, piano!), writing, composing, playing and even producing the bulk of her material, initially in her converted bedroom and more recently in Paul Weller’s Black Barn studio, via personal invitation!
