As I approached the venue via Queen Street, I could see a BBC 6 Music mobile broadcast vehicle parked up on the side of the road, this is where Steve Lamacq would be hosting his show from this every evening. Amongst the guests on his show were Frank Turner and The Velvet Hands who were performing in the venue later on. Steve also chatted to Pippa and Dave who run the venue and are key players on the local music scene in Exeter, without the support of these two, the vibrant musical landscape would be a baron, dark and soulless place….
Read MoreThe KAISER CHIEFS tore Plymouth a new hole as they showcased tracks from their latest long player and pleased the crowd with some fab classics....
Following a string of July 2019 exclusive full band album launch shows which took place in Leeds and London, it was time for Kaiser Chiefs to take the show on the road to promote their latest long player DUCK. Tonight saw the band on stage, spreading their merry wares to the people of Plymouth. For a cold January Monday night, it was absolutely packed, testament to the fact that Ricky Wilson et al have still got what it takes to draw a strong crowd. As with any tour to promote new material, I feared that people would rather they just knock out a ‘Greatest Hits’ set to keep them happy, would it be like this tonight, only time would tell.

After 30 years, Jonn and Rat from Ned’s Atomic Dustbin decided it was time to strap on an acoustic guitar and record 14 of their classic hits for an album called Ned’s Acoustic Dustbon.
I was invited to interview both Jonn and Rat before the release of the album (which landed before Christmas) but owing to a bit of a mix up, I only got the time slot through this morning, luckily a few days ahead of the run of UK live dates.
We had a good chat about the recording process for the new album (involving the one and only Mr Miles Hunt from The Wonder Stuff), their classic T-Shirts (including the name of the spongey ink they used) and what it means to them to go out and play to a room full of adoring fans, read on for all this and so much more!
