Having done a ‘what’s on’ style gig guide for Plymouth, I thought it only fair to do one for Bristol too.
Here are a few gigs that are taking place at various venues around the city throughout September and October.

I wanted to tell you about 4 shows that are taking place at Plymouth Pavilions in September and October.

As I was checking his recent social media entries my son called me to say that he had just seen a ‘sick rapper’ called Master Peace, I said that he was in the press tent right now and I’ll be chatting with him in a few minutes. 2 minutes later, my son came bursting into the tent, keen to meet the man he been moshing to in the Land of the Saints big top just moments beforehand.
We found a cosy picnic table and chatted about how it felt to be back, performing in front of a real audience again and whether or not he found the lockdown period particularly creative or not. For answers to these questions and many more, click the link below to check out the whole interview.

When the lovely ladies in the press tent at Boardmasters Festival ask if you’d like to chat to a Grammy nominated artist who may be popping into the press area later on in the evening, who was I to say no?
I think Kelli-Leigh was due in a couple of hours before her set on the Unleashed stage and as the time approached, a golf buggy arrived with her and her people on board. We de-camped to the press tent, got comfy and I chatted to her about loads of things, mainly around how it feels to finally be out there again playing in front of a real audience and whether the lockdown period for her had been particularly creative or not.
For answers to these questions and a whole lot more, click the link below, listen to us chatting and then go and share it on the socials so that we can increase her fanbase.

I had already arranged to chat to DIRTSHARKS after their set on the VIEW stage at BOARDMASTERS FESTIVAL this year, but with one thing and another, this got delayed a little so it wasn’t until a bit later on when one of the band members arrived. I had done my research and saw that they had recently gone from being a duo to a trio, no problems there, but midway through our chat, another 3 members of the band arrived making it a quartet….confused? you betcha!
So, after a bit of explaining, I found out that they had recently taken on a new drummer but try as I might, I still can’t recall where the 4th member came from, I’m sure that we discussed it during the interview, so if you want to find out more, click the link below and take a listen to me chatting to Dirtsharks at Boardmasters Festival 2021.

It’s been a while since I last spoke to The Rezner, I think we chatted very briefly at Beautiful Days festival a couple of years back and prior to that, we may have exchanged pleasantries in Exeter at another show, other than that, I don’t think we’ve ever sat down for a catch up.
I was at Boardmasters Festival recently and I saw that the guys were on the bill and I thought it rather rude not to arrange a meet up on their home soil. I arranged a time and a venue, all I needed them to do was arrive on time to make it a perfect storm, 4:30pm arrived and so did they guys, they even bought their own drinks with them too - sadly not one for me though, next time maybe!

The Specials who enjoyed a triumphant 2019 with the release of the critically acclaimed “Encore”, their first ever number 1 album, coming 40 years after they exploded onto the music scene and launched the 2 Tone movement, make a very timely return with the release of their brand new album “Protest Songs 1924 -2012”. Released on September 24th through their new label Island Records, the album features twelve singular takes on specially chosen protest songs across an almost 100-year span and shows The Specials still care, are still protesting and still pissed off! As well as music news and reviews, we here at musomuso often chat to bands and artists about their influences, how they got started and other interesting things that you might like to know about them. For a while now, I wanted to step away and turn the spotlight 180 degrees and focus on the unsung heroes of the music industry, this could be a live music photographer, a stage manager or maybe a festival promoter in an attempt to find out more about their story and how their journey panned out over the years.
For the first in the series of this feature, I chatted at length to Sim Rich, the owner of Rich Mix Records in the heart of Brixham, which specialises in pre-loved LP’s, 12” & 7” vinyl, CD’s, cassettes, musical instruments, books, memorabilia and retro HI-FI.

With less than a month to go until NASS 2021, we thought we’d remind all the lucky people who were able to get a ticket, what they can look forward to over the weekend. Fortunately for you, I’ll be leaving my BMX at home, back in 1983, I was a demon on the freestyle circuit, I used to be able to do them all, backhops, bunny hops, standing on the seat, even one handed riding….. oh yeah, Andy Ruffell had nothing on me I tell you!
You want killer headline acts, no problem, how does HEADIE ONE, KANO and THE STREETS sound? these will be joined by a slew of incredible acts including OCEAN WISDOM, ELLA EYRE, LITTLE SIMZ, BECKY HILL, RAYE and RAY BLK amongst many other acts performing over the weekend.
If DJ’s are your bag, you can look forward to the creme de la creme of the club scene who’ll be spinning up some tracks to keep you dancing all night long, you can look forward to ANDY C, SHY FX, NICKY BLACKMARKET, DJ HAZARD, FABIO & GROOVERIDER, FLAVA D, KENNY KEN, LTJ BUKEM and more.
Keeping the DJ’s on their toes are a ton of MC’s including BASSMAN, DRS, IC3, LXONE, PHANTOM & TEMPZA.
There’ll be daily Skate and BMX events taking place, there’s a HUGE £45000 prize pot up for grabs, ramps, ring of fire and a wallride which looks immense!
You can also check out some of the finest street art which will be created in front of your very eyes.
All this will be taking place over 10 stages, music will be banging until 3am every morning and if you fancy your chances, why not take part in one of the DJ & MC workshops….
I’ll be there, interviewing some of the acts performing over the weekend, I’ll have my photographer with me so make sure that you give us a smile if you see us wandering about!
Hope to see you there!

We last saw Polly Money at an event held in Rougemont Gardens in Exeter at what can only be described as a mini music festival which featured a few local acts, Stormzy, Wretch 32 and culminated in a Basement Jaxx DJ set, rather a random lineup I’m sure you’ll agree.
Prior to this, we bumped into her when she was opening for The Boomtown Rats at the Exeter University and after checking back on the website, I see that we did actually run a printed interview feature with Polly way back in 2014, you can read this HERE
Anyway, fast forward 7 years and I am sat with her in the media garden at BOARDMASTERS FESTIVAL and we had a great chat about her appearance on the BBC Introducing stage later in the day, how it feels to be back playing to real people and whether she will ever support MUSE again….

I was walking to The View stage around Friday lunchtime to catch Pattern Pusher’s set when I wandered past the ‘wellbeing’ area at BOARDMASTERS FESTIVAL. I could hear some lovely music coming from the small stage that was setup in the area and as I looked up to see who it was, I noticed Daisy Clark on the stage singing her heart out to a very attentive audience.
On the Saturday afternoon, Daisy popped into the press tent to chat to some friends on the PR team and I asked her if she’d like to have a chat as there were some questions I had for her around a certain G7 Summit event that took place at the Carbis Bay Hotel earlier this year.

I’ll admit to you now, when JOESEF arrived in the media garden for a chat after his main stage appearance at BOARDMASTERS FESTIVAL, I had never heard of him, his music or his origin so chatting to him was great fun!
We chatted about the music scene in his home city of Glasgow and his forthcoming live show at The Barras (aka The Barrowlands) in the heart of Glasgow which has played host to just about EVERYONE in the music industry over the past goodness knows how many years!
