London’s genre-defying powerhouse CHINCHILLA has peeled back the layers with her latest release Avoidance—a raw, emotionally charged ballad that marks the beginning of a new trilogy of singles. Released on June 5th and now accompanied by a visually arresting music video, the track captures the visceral moment of heartbreak and anxiety that birthed it: a triggering text, a cab ride, and a one-hour writing session that spilled out like a wound.
Directed by Clayrn Chong, the video for Avoidance is a slow-motion descent into emotional paralysis. CHINCHILLA’s symbolic fall—styled by Holly Wood and avant-garde fashion visionary Keko Hainswheeler—mirrors the stomach-drop sensation of an anxiety attack. “I fall backwards taking it into a more otherworldly space,” she explains, “a perfect metaphor for that stomach drop anxiety attack feeling… and I guess the complexities of those emotions.”
The result is a visual that’s as stark as it is stunning, pairing surreal styling with intimate storytelling. It’s not just a music video—it’s a portrait of emotional honesty.
Known for her explosive tracks like Little Girl Gone and Cut You Off, CHINCHILLA’s latest work trades defiance for introspection. Avoidance is the first in a trilogy that charts her journey through heartbreak, burnout, and eventual healing. Written in the cocoon of her furry-walled shed-studio, the trilogy promises a deeper dive into the artist’s psyche, where sensitivity becomes strength.
Fresh off three sold-out headline shows and stadium dates supporting Justin Timberlake, CHINCHILLA’s star continues to rise. She’s just announced a headline European tour this autumn, with stops in Prague, Berlin, Hamburg, Rotterdam, and Paris. She’ll also join G Flip on their US tour later this year.
