Jay Moussa-Mann is an idiosyncratic songwriter whose songs draw on myriad sources. A writer and filmmaker, she released her debut album, Little Deaths in 2019. She has been played repeatedly on BBC Introducing, Tom Robinson’s Show on BBC Radio 6, The Bob Fischer Show on BBC Tees, as well as performing live sessions on BBC Radio Tees. Jay has just released her brilliant single 'What Makes You Think?' and is gearing up towards another album release later this year.

Alongside the rescheduled shows, the band have also announced a handful of additional UK dates, with the tour now taking in stops in Lincoln, Bristol, Hull, Liverpool and Leeds.

Detroit, in the 1960s, the home of both soul and punk rock. Smokey Robinson and the MC5. In it's small satellite town of Flint, lived Rick Hickman, a blues guitarist influenced by both of these traditions. Rick channeled these influences into cutting his own 45 on the private press Special Edition Records label and that’s where he expected it to end.

Channelling a broad and sweeping dark-pop appeal, ‘I Confess’ continues the foundations built with ‘Bone Collector’ and creates this wonderfully warm and airy aesthetic in the process. With its rich and ethereal energy running throughout, she has returned with a truly masterful release that sets her far apart from much of what we hear day-to-day in the alt-pop scene.

Having already found a fan in Mary Anne Hobbs, who has played his previous material on her BBC 6 Music show multiple times in recent months, South London-based producer Zaflon is back to his winning ways once again as he delivers his bouncing new single ‘Till The Meds Wear Off (Let’s Dance)’.

After gaining much experience in the industry Ione has now decided to pour her energy into her own music. The often disconcerting honesty and the raw pain that pulses throughout his street poetry is disarming and, at times, deeply moving. Through exposing his own vulnerabilities on ‘nhs’ – “It always rains when it's sunny” and imparting a level of universal reassurance becomes weirdly comforting, even though he depicts life as “the same old shit, different day”.

Not only are the singles’ titles self-explanatory but Wilde has opened a gateway into her past by returning full circle to her South London roots, combining her sharp-witted lyricism through Spoken Word/Rap alongside her more familiar style husky, punky soul vocals.

There was only one live album recorded during the early days, which featured the original line up of the band, this was available in Japan in the late 90’s for a very short time before it was deleted. Fast forward 20 years and I was delighted to hear that the Acid Jazz label have remastered a new release from the original source tape and made it available on a ‘baby blue’ double LP, CD and Download.

Originally released in 1978 these tracks are some of the only known recordings by this obscure band and present the listener with some of finest afro-boogie and afro funk there is.
