While I have always loved a good remix (or reimagining, if you will), I do think some of them are overindulgent and unnecessary. That is not the case with ‘Not Now Norman’s’ revamp of their previous single ‘Run Boy.’ The single is question is ‘Run Boy Pt. 2’ and it does several things that make it a lovely and vital contribution to ‘Not Now Norman’s’ music catalogue.

A gloomy midweek day in Plymouth, not much on the tellybox, “I know, let’s head out to a show”, “who’s performing?”, “Do you fancy The Specials? they’re on at Plymouth Pavilions”….”I’ll get my coat!”
This was pretty much the conversation I had with a good friend literally on the afternoon of the show.

As I was checking his recent social media entries my son called me to say that he had just seen a ‘sick rapper’ called Master Peace, I said that he was in the press tent right now and I’ll be chatting with him in a few minutes. 2 minutes later, my son came bursting into the tent, keen to meet the man he been moshing to in the Land of the Saints big top just moments beforehand.

I think Kelli-Leigh was due in a couple of hours before her set on the Unleashed stage and as the time approached, a golf buggy arrived with her and her people on board. We de-camped to the press tent, got comfy and I chatted to her about loads of things, mainly around how it feels to finally be out there again playing in front of a real audience and whether the lockdown period for her had been particularly creative or not.

We chatted to a superb alt rock band from Cornwall called DIRTSHARKS - Listen to the interview here....
I had already arranged to chat to DIRTSHARKS after their set on the VIEW stage at BOARDMASTERS FESTIVAL this year, but with one thing and another, this got delayed a little so it wasn’t until a bit later on when one of the band members arrived. I had done my research and saw that they had recently gone from being a duo to a trio, no problems there, but midway through our chat, another 3 members of the band arrived making it a quartet….confused? you betcha!

It’s been a while since I last spoke to The Rezner, I think we chatted very briefly at Beautiful Days festival a couple of years back and prior to that, we may have exchanged pleasantries in Exeter at another show, other than that, I don’t think we’ve ever sat down for a catch up.
I was at Boardmasters Festival recently and I saw that the guys were on the bill and I thought it rather rude not to arrange a meet up on their home soil. I arranged a time and a venue, all I needed them to do was arrive on time to make it a perfect storm, 4:30pm arrived and so did they guys, they even bought their own drinks with them too - sadly not one for me though, next time maybe!

For a while now, I wanted to step away and turn the spotlight 180 degrees and focus on the unsung heroes of the music industry, this could be a live music photographer, a stage manager or maybe a festival promoter in an attempt to find out more about their story and how their journey panned out over the years.

Fortunately for you, I’ll be leaving my BMX at home, back in 1983, I was a demon on the freestyle circuit, I used to be able to do them all, backhops, bunny hops, standing on the seat, even one handed riding….. oh yeah, Andy Ruffell had nothing on me I tell you!
You want killer headline acts, no problem, how does HEADIE ONE, KANO and THE STREETS sound? these will be joined by a slew of incredible acts including OCEAN WISDOM, ELLA EYRE, LITTLE SIMZ, BECKY HILL, RAYE and RAY BLK amongst many other acts performing over the weekend.
If DJ’s are your bag, you can look forward to the creme de la creme of the club scene who’ll be spinning up some tracks to keep you dancing all night long, you can look forward to ANDY C, SHY FX, NICKY BLACKMARKET, DJ HAZARD, FABIO & GROOVERIDER, FLAVA D, KENNY KEN, LTJ BUKEM and more.
Keeping the DJ’s on their toes are a ton of MC’s including BASSMAN, DRS, IC3, LXONE, PHANTOM & TEMPZA.
There’ll be daily Skate and BMX events taking place, there’s a HUGE £45000 prize pot up for grabs, ramps, ring of fire and a wallride which looks immense!
You can also check out some of the finest street art which will be created in front of your very eyes.
